My work seeks to express the surreal and the unexpected found in ordinary everyday moments. I draw inspiration from cinema and the traditions of tableaux painting as well as from direct observations of life. I am interested in combining elements of documentary and the snapshot aesthetic with the kind of staging and narrative construction one would normally associate with film. The photographic fragment and its unreliability as a vessel of truth is a theme that I find endlessly fascinating.
Since leaving the Royal College of Art, I have worked as both an exhibiting artist and as a freelance photographer. My work is in National collections such as the Tate, the Arts Council and the Government Art Collection. I have also shot editorial portraiture and fashion as well as fashion campaigns for Vivienne Westwood.
At the moment there is an interesting overlap in visual culture between art, portraiture, documentary and fashion photography. I have found navigating this territory between genres stimulating and enriching for my practice.
